SDSM has levelled fierce criticism at VMRO-DPMNE and Interior Minister Pance Toskovski over the draft-changes to the Law on Police.According to the opposition party, if adopted, they will represent a serious blow to the career system, humiliate knowledge and experience, and open room for mass employment of “party soldiers” and people obedient to VMRO-DPMNE.
On Thursday, the opposition party pointed to draft-changes to several articles. Regarding Article 2, SDSM said that it provided for the appointment of people with improper education levels and without experience in a managerial position to most senior positions.
“That degrades police and, instead of professionals, advisers with unclearly defined roles and merits are brought in”, it stresses.
However, SDSM’s stand is that what’s most scandalous is that if Article 19 is deleted, there will be a possibility of people who’ve been convicted and issued bans on work to continue to be part of police and be saved from accountability.
Nonetheless, VMRO-DPMNE stated that it was opening the door to professionals that had been repressed within the institution because they had disagreed with the views of the ruling structure that had been headed by ex-Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski and former PMs Zoran Zaev and Dimitar Kovacevski.
