Position of 1st Deputy PM to Continue to Exist within New Government

The position of 1st Deputy PM will continue to exist in the frames of the new cabinet.

VLEN’s Izet Mexhiti will succeed DUI’s Artan Grubi. On Friday, he ironically said he would not play football in his office, bring suitcases outside public institutions, and deal with the businesses of the National Literary and Soravia centre.

“It’s true that this matter, as all others, hasn’t been regulated all the way by DUI. So, the Law on Government doesn’t include the position, but the Rules of Procedure do. Now, on the basis of the Rules of Procedure and on the basis of the agreement on the future government, I will be the 1st Deputy PM,” Mexhiti, who is also a candidate for the position of Environment Minister, stressed.

His comments actually represent a rebuttal of the ones made two days prior by VMRO-DPMNE’s Aleksandar Nikoloski, a candidate for the positions of Deputy PM and Minister of Transport and Communications, according to which the position will be abolished.

However, Mexhiti said that the deal on the 1st Deputy PM issue had been reached with VMRO-DPMNE leader and PM-designate Hristijan Mickoski.
