“The preparation of the new Draft-Criminal Code has finished. It’s been translated into English and submitted for opinion to the European Commission,” the Justice Ministry said on Thursday.
The corresponding tables, as an obligation arising from the Chapter 23 Bilateral Screening process, have been prepared as well, the institution added.
Once the opinion comes, if there are no remarks, the document will be sent to procedure within the Government, from where it will be forwarded to Parliament. In the legislative house, it is adopted by simple majority.
The new text aims to reintroduce aspects related to Articles 353 and 394, removed as a result of the Code changes made in September 2023, which reduced prison sentences for crimes related to abuse of official position and criminal association.
