President Comments on Greek PM’s Stands and Government Formation Issue

President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova said on Tuesday she declined to comment on the threats by Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis regarding a potential veto on the EU path over non-respect for the Prespa Agreement.

“I don’t comment on messages by Mr Mitsotakis,” she pointed out. As the President added, the Prespa Agreement has mechanisms, from indication to contacting the UN’s Secretary General.

“There is also a possibility of launching proceedings before the International Court of Justice, whose ruling was not respected by the neighbour, Greece,” Siljanovska Davkova noted.

Despite saying she couldn’t stop the Greek PM from making the comments, she stressed they were not in the spirit of developing friendly relations.

“The Prespa Agreement is part of the negotiating framework, but I don’t think that is in the spirit of developing friendly relations. I think that in traditional diplomacy too, it’s good for us to take a look at cultural diplomacy, where they solve problems differently. I think that we, too, with the neighbours, in a friendly spirit, we could try to behave differently and be a little Scandinavian,” the President added.
