President Pendarovski Delivers Annual Address in Parliament

On Tuesday, in his annual address in Parliament, President Stevo Pendarovski stated that regardless of who would be in power after the elections, the country had to stay on the EU path.

Regarding the constitutional changes, he stated that the debate had to continue, while neither the Negotiating Framework nor the deal with Bulgaria could be changed.

When it comes to the judicial system, he said the endemic corruption endangering the vitality of the country had to be rooted out. In his view, unfortunately, the impression is that the US and the EU are more eager fighters against corruption in North Macedonia when compared to domestic institutions.

“However, foreign sanctions are not enough not only because they are not accompanied by domestic sanctions,” he stated, proposing again for a vetting process after the elections that would first cover politicians and then judges.
