President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova has signed off on decrees recalling seven diplomats, that is, five Ambassadors and two Permanent Representatives. The decision was published in the Official Gazette on 11 November.
Among them is Dane Taleski, Permanent Representative to NATO, whose term, according to the decision, will last until 15 January 2025. The other six diplomats, whose term will end on 30 November, are Teuta Agai-Demjaha (Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva), Danco Markovski (Ambassador to Albania), Marija Efremova (Ambassador to the Vatican), Faton Bejta (Ambassador to Denmark), Sali Limani (Ambassador to Kazakhstan), and Shaban Jashari (Ambassador to Qatar).
The decrees don’t refer to the reasons why they’ve been recalled. However, the text in the Official Gazette says that the Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, Timco Mucunski, will execute the decrees. On Tuesday, Mucunski said the seven diplomats’ term was ending.
“This is a regular procedure when the mandate of ambassadors ends,” he pointed out, adding that it was not about extraordinary recalling or consultations.
According to Mucunski, a consultations process to appoint new ambassadors is underway. Regarding the former Permanent Representative to the UN, Ljubomir Frckoski, the Minister said the resignation didn’t mean processes for an internal audit process regarding financial operations had ended. Mucunski also commented on Ambassador Andrej Zernovski (Romania) and Vesel Memedi (Albania).
“Internal procedures are being carried out over them within the Ministry, in accordance with the Law on Foreign Affairs. You will be briefed properly once those procedures end. From a formal and legal standpoint, Memedi is still the Ambassador. From a formal legal standpoint, Zernovski has never become an ambassador in Bucharest because he hasn’t handed over letters of credence, while Frckoski is a resigning ambassador,” Mucunski stressed.
