Prosecutor’s Office: Drin Ahmeti was Summoned over Concession, not Soravia, Case

The Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecution of Organised Crime and Corruption said yesterday DUI leader Ali Ahmeti’s nephew, Drin Ahmeti, had been interrogated only in relation to the criminal charge over the mine concession case, not with regards to the Soravia process.

“He was summoned in November. Other persons are being interrogated too”, the Office pointed out.

The criminal charge covers also Drin’s brother, Besian Ahmeti, and seven other people. So far, Drin Ahmeti hasn’t been summoned for a statement over the Soravia case, over which a pre-investigation is being carried out by the Office.

“In order to determine relevant facts of importance to the pre-investigative proceedings, action from the US authorities is being awaited upon the international legal aid letters rogatory”, the institution said, adding that the Interior Ministry, following an order by the prosecutor in charge of the case, was analysing part of the secured documentation.

Other investigative activities are being taken as well, according to the Office. In an interview with Telma that will be published on Sunday, Drin Ahmeti says he found out about the charge in the concession case from media.

“I came from the US specially to answer before an official institution that I respect very much and to answer about any suspicions they have about what I did. This concerns the concession case. I explained to them. I provided the payments. I provided the paid interests for the delay and told them why there had been a delay, the technical reasons for the delay”, he noted.
