Public Debates on Judicial Council Reform Start

The public debates on the Judicial Council reform issue have started. At the first debate, held on Friday, legal experts and Igor Filkov exchanged views on whether changes to the Law on the Council were needed.

The Justice Minister stated that that was the case because the Council’s functionality had been called into question on several occasions. The Ministry’s proposal, Minister Filkov added, will be revealed once the experts’ opinions are presented.

Judicial Council President Vesna Dameva, too, believes it’s good for experts’ views to be heard before changes to the legislation are made. The debates are being organised in cooperation and with support from the EU Support for the Rule of Law project, which cites the European Commission’s remarks.
