Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said on Wednesday that the tone of dialogue he and his North Macedonia counterpart, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, had established should be used also by the government in Skopje.
According to him, both institutions of President have shown that constructive and open communication is possible and that they play a key part in fostering good-neighbourly relations.
Regarding the EU path, Radev stated that the matter went beyond a timely inclusion of Bulgarians in North Macedonia’s Constitution, stressing, as he noted, the need for North Macedonia’s government and legislative house to act swiftly to implement provisions part of the Negotiating Framework and 2017 Good-Neighbourliness Treaty.
Furthermore, the Bulgarian politician pointed out that delays might cost the eastern neighbour precious time when it came to its progress on the integration journey. Moreover, Bulgaria’s President said if North Macedonia’s leadership genuinely wanted to achieve EU integration, it had to meet conditions laid down in the agreements.
