Reactions to DUI Leader Ahmeti’s Stand on Election of President Issue

Commenting on DUI leader Ali Ahmeti’s stand that the President should be elected in Parliament, not in elections, a senior SDSM official told Sitel on Thursday that it represented “common populism” related to the upcoming elections.

“That requires consensus in society that currently doesn’t exist. In addition, there are small chances of such consensus being built in the shorter term,” the official pointed out.

VMRO-DPMNE has said that it fears that Ahmeti’s position “represents a subtle introduction to the possibility” of DUI boycotting the second round of the elections because the party is aware that it is, slowly but surely, losing the part of an important factor on the political scene.
