SCPC to Need to Say itself whether It’s Lawful for its Head to Be Elected in Pre-Election Period

The scheduling of the local elections has made matters more difficult when it comes to the process to elect a new President of the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption (SCPC).

Though the law states that from the day the elections are scheduled to the day they end, a procedure mustn’t be started to employ new persons or dismiss people from state and public institutions, while started procedures are put on hold, except in event of urgent and unpostponable matters, Parliament’s Committee on Election and Appointment Issues has scheduled a session for election of a commission that will be in charge of selecting candidates for the post of SCPC President.

The Committee’s Chair, VMRO-DPMNE MP Gjorgjija Sajkoski, explains that the procedure will be being carried out due to the legal deadlines to elect Dimitrovska’s successor.

However, he adds that everything will depend on the decision by the SCPC. That means that the SCPC itself will need to state whether it is lawful for Parliament to elect its President in the pre-election period.
