SDSM’s youth organization, SDMM, has continued its fierce criticism of VMRO-DPMNE MP Sergej Popov, who also heads the ruling party’s Youth Forces Union, over the 2014 case in which he was found guilty of driving without a license, under the influence of alcohol, and causing a traffic accident in which a woman had been injured.
“Instead of facing a prison sentence, Popov was just fined 500 euros, like he’d committed a common offence. We publicly ask the question about the judicial system’s selectivity at that time. Is this the result of political pressure and influence from VMRO-DPMNE, the party that then held the judicial power under full control? That’s why this case must undergo a full revision”, SDMM said on Monday.
In response, VMRO-DPPMNE said the fact that SDSM was voicing stands on serious topics such as the judiciary through its youth organization showed the low level to which the opposition party had fallen.
