According to SDSM, on 20 April, on Aleksandar Makedonski Boulevard in Skopje, police registered a Mini Cooper going 87 km/h in a 50 km/h area, but no fine was issued initially because it was driven by Dalibor Stefkovski, brother of VMRO-DPMNE’s Boban Stefkovski, the Mayor of Gazi Baba.
“In the middle of Skopje, the Mayor’s brother was flying at 87 km/h even though he was in a 50 km/h area. Whistleblowers from the Interior Ministry have submitted to us a video of the radar showing the speed”, Spokesperson Bogdanka Kuzeska said at a press-conference on Monday at which she played what she said was the video showing the situation.
She also stated that the fine had been instead issued to a person whose initials were S.J., based on the documentation from the whistleblowers.
“There are traffic accidents every step of the way. Instead of ensuring respect for the law, they protect violators only because they are officials of [VMRO-]DPMNE. ‘Even if my brother is responsible for wrongdoing, he will be held to account.’ That’s the biggest lie told by [Interior Minister Pance] Toskovski”, Kuzeska noted.
Commenting on the situation, Toskovski said there would be criminal accountability for the Ministry employee who’d asked for the fine to be issued for another first and last name. The Mayor’s brother went to a police station and was fined.
