Sekerinska Appointment: PM Says National Interests Come before Party Ones

Regarding the appointment of former Defence Minister Radmila Sekerinska as the next Deputy Secretary-General of NATO, PM Hristijan Mickoski said on Wednesday that though there had been and were differences with regards to concept and ideology, the Government had had no dilemmas that there had to be support when it was about the country’s strategic interests.

“To us, national interests and unity come before party ones. Having a Macedonian as the Deputy Secretary General of the largest and most powerful military alliance is truly an honour. Neither me nor the Government had dilemmas that we should support the candidacy. It’s good that it has ended successfully. Yesterday, I talked to Sekerinska by phone, we had a conversation. There are no dilemmas that we should cooperate together to help the Macedonian Army and, in turn, security and everything Macedonian citizens need,” the PM stated.

Mickoski again called for unity and dialogue with opposition not only verbally, but also through actions. SDSM, however, said that the government had been late to the party when it came to congratulating Sekerinska.
