Skopje Mayor Arsovska Feels no Blame for Failure to Deliver on Election Promises

Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska said on Tuesday that she wasn’t to blame for the failure to deliver on promises made to the people of Skopje during the 2021 campaign for the local elections.

“So far, I’ve implemented 800 projects. I haven’t implemented only that which requires consent from the City of Skopje Council,” she stressed.

As the Mayor also said, Hristijan Mickoski, in the capacity of VMRO-DPMNE leader, too, would make the promises to citizens about the projects.

“I had been the best Mayor until September 2022, until we caught somebody’s hands in the cookie jar. Since then, I’ve been the worst Mayor,” she also said regarding her fall-out with VMRO-DPMNE.

According to the Mayor, the Government should settle the eight-million-euro debt regarding the Public Transport Enterprise for the free transport of students.

“That’s a priority if it wants problems to be solved,” Arsovska stressed.

She especially criticised Local Self-Government Minister Zlatko Perinski.

“I understand he is inexperienced in this field. However, he will probably learn during his term. Nonetheless, he should know that if Council members from his party hadn’t blocked projects, plans for work, and PEs, Skopje would not be in this state. Even though we presented a plan, they didn’t accept it and asked for a new plan from us. They were surprised that we accepted that too because they want problems, not solutions,” the Mayor emphasised regarding her meeting with Perinski and PM Mickoski the previous day.
