Telma: Hristovski Got State Secret Clearance at Start of Week

According to Telma, Agency for National Security Director Bojan Hristovski got state secret clearance at the start of the week, that is, just 10 days after he’d taken office. Now, Hristovski will be able to read documents classified as “state secret”, unlike the previous days, when the deputy head of institution had been retelling the content to him.

Considering a person without clearance for a certain degree of classification (“state secret”, “highly confidential” or “confidential”) is not allowed, according to the law, to receive any information about the content of such documents, retelling state secrets constitutes grounds for criminal prosecution.

The security check of Hristovski and the issue of the certificate by the Classified Information Security Directorate can be also new evidence in the procedures of the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption (SCPC), Interior Ministry, and Prosecutor’s Office.

That is so because during the check, the person asking Hristovski questions had to ask him about the TOEFL certificate issue and allegations about the non-existence of the Julia school in Plovdiv. That answer would be key in the authorities’ investigation.

If Hristovski hadn’t been asked by a subordinate about the TOEFL issue, the SCPC will then be required to check potential conflict of interest by the Agency employee or an intentional oversight.
