Travel Certificates and Replacement of Driving Licences to Be Free of Charge

Starting from Wednesday, the replacement of driving licences and vehicle registration certificates due to the obligation arising from the Prespa Agreement will be free of charge.

Travel certificates for North Macedonia nationals abroad who need to return to the country to change personal documents will be free of charge as well. In countries where there are no diplomatic-consular missions, travel certificates will be issued online and sent by snail mail.

According to the Foreign Ministry, there are enough certificates at the country’s missions. Employees of the Interior Ministry’s services that were working on the process to replace personal documents will get an additional salary for their efforts. Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Fatmir Bytyqi was asked on Tuesday, following the session of the Government where the decisions had been made, whether citizens who had obtained documents on time were discriminated.

“Yes. However, we are checking the possibility of drivers receiving compensation for the money spent by them,” he said.

Regarding the sticker reading “NMK” for licence plates on vehicles, the Interior Ministry said the deadline had been extended until 31 December 2024.
