US Ambassador Angela Aggeler discussed several topics related to current affairs in North Macedonia in an interview with Sitel TV.
“Citizens are indeed frustrated with the level of corruption, which is not limited to judiciary only, but is present in all aspects of life and it affects the people every day. It needs to be dealt with seriously and combated.
When it comes to the judiciary, there is a roadmap for judicial reforms, and how the Judicial Council and other judicial organs might be reformed. Henceforth, I think that decision for disbanding of these institutions should not be made quickly, and all possible consequences of such decisions should be analysed very carefully.
When it comes to corruption, the US Black List is still active, and there are number of cases being considered, which opens possibility for addition of new names in future. The presence of PM and the Ministers at 75th NATO Summit was significant. That was a message for the new government that NATO is strong and is growing stronger. We witnessed on 9/11 that there are people who wish us harm.
The Russian invasion over Ukraine shows this. We must support measures and reforms that strengthen the stabilization of the region.
When it comes to the relations between North Macedonia and Bulgaria, it is good that President Siljanovska Davkova is going to Bulgaria and will meet her counterpart, President Radev. The stronger the relationships with the neighbours, the more secure, prosperous and stable all of the countries can be”, Aggeler said.
She concluded that the US will remain a great friend, partner and ally of North Macedonia, and will continue to support the country no matter the outcome of the US presidential election in November.
