Varhelyi: Inter-Governmental Conference with Skopje in October if Possible

European Commissioner on Enlargement and Neighbourhood Oliver Varhelyi said that the European Commission (EC) intends to hold the next inter-governmental conferences with Serbia and Albania, and if it is possible with Skopje, in October 2024.

Varhelyi cited the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, which according to him, sets the right conditions for acceleration of the integration of these countries in the EU.

“This is an unprecedented offer of around 6 billion euros which aims to support the socio-economic development and progress of this region, so it can get closer to EU integration. This Plan is also supposed to accelerate processes for implementation of reforms, which too are crucial for accession in the EU.

Having in mind the current geo-political situation in Europe, there can be no peace, no prosperity and no security without enlargement of the EU, which is why the enlargement remains very high on our political agenda in the period to come,” Varhelyi said.
