European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi wrote on X (formerly Twitter) after his meeting with Minister of European Affairs of North Macedonia, Orhan Murtezani, that the process for integration of the country in the EU needs to be accelerated.
“Good exchange with Minister Murtezani on the accession process of North Macedonia. Enlargement is our common goal. Agreed that there is no time to waste when it comes to completing the necessary steps. All tools are there to make it a great success for the people of North Macedonia,” Varhelyi wrote.
Previously, Murtezani stated that he and Varhelyi discussed the process for the EU-integration of the country, and the challenges and obstacles it faces along the way, including the constitutional changes, as well as the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans and the reform agenda related to it.
Also on Wednesday in Brussels, Murtezani had meetings with General Director for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations (NEAR), Valentina Superti, and Manager of NEAR’s Department for North Macedonia and Albania, Sigrid Bretel.
The interlocutors discussed the implementation of the Reform Agenda for the period 2024-2027, the preparations of North Macedonia for signing of the contract for the Instrument of the Growth Plan for North Macedonia.
