VLEN again Presents Idea to Abolish Early Elections for Mayor

VLEN has once again presented the idea for there to be no early elections for mayor if a municipality’s head who has served at least half of the term becomes a minister.

If the legal changes are made and if Arben Taravari and Timco Mucunski officially become ministers, Aerodrom and Gostivar, respectively, will get acting mayors.

In Saraj, as a result of the election of Blerim Bexheti as MP, Council member Ilas Veseli has already assumed mayoral obligations he will perform until the 2025 local elections.

VLEN’s Halil Snopce said on Tuesday his coalition didn’t agree with the laws that said that early elections for mayor should be held in the current scenario.

“It’s not OK to bother citizens, to make them vote twice over a short period of time,” he stressed. Once the draft-changes are completed, they will be shared with MPs.
