VLEN Urges Action by Prosecutors over Lottery Case, DUI Rebuffs Accusations

On Tuesday, VLEN MP Bekim Sali urged the Public Prosecutor’s Office to react, on the basis of rumour, over reasonable doubt about “political corruption” involving DUI staff part of the National Lottery.

Presenting a document from the Central Registry issued on 4 August, he said the Lottery JSC, on 31 March, by delegating 51% of its ownership capital, had registered a second video lottery, under the name “NOVO VLT”, with a core capital of nearly 10 million euros.

As Sali added, the HTL Macedonia company for services is the co-owner and holder of activity.

“The extended arm of Artan Grubi, former National Lottery Director Perparim Bajrami, and his fellow DUI members, Artin Spahiju and Omer Bunjaki, were appointed NOVO VLT Supervisory Board members,” the VLEN MP stated.

According to VLEN, a public procurement contract was signed between HTL Makedonija and NOVO VLT on 13 June 2024, 35 days after the parliamentary elections, for procurement, over a two-year period, of 1,600 video lottery terminals worth nearly 19 million euros.

Sali asked whether it was true that at the time of the signing the market price of one terminal had been 3,800 euros. DUI rejected the accusations.

HTL Macedonia, too, reacted, saying Sali had used the question form in order to avoid responsibility for his lies.
