On Tuesday, at the constitutive session of the new composition of Parliament, with 76 votes in favour and six against, VLEN’s Afrim Gashi was elected Speaker of the legislative house.
He had been nominated with 75 signatures from VMRO-DPMNE, ZNAM, and VLEN MPs. Gashi stated that he would work in the interest of everybody and enable all MPs to be enabled to present their stands.
“That’s the beauty of democracy,” the new Speaker stated.
Previously, Izet Mexhiti of VLEN had said Gashi had extensive experience within Parliament and met all criteria to be the new Speaker.
On the other hand, Levica’s Amar Mecinovic stated that it had been exactly Gashi who’d saved the previous government from falling, reiterating he would also be the caretaker PM in the last 100 days of the new government.
Party leader Dimitar Apasiev said VMRO-DPMNE had been a silent participant in everything done by the outgoing ruling structure.
In response, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said he regretted citizens had to witness behaviour through which several people had tried to make a reality show.
“I apologise also to those who voted for these few MPs. I assume they expect me, too, to behave in their aggressive style. What lies ahead for Macedonia is years of reforms, of development, the rule of law, an uncompromising fight against crime and corruption,” he stressed.
