Spokesperson of VMRO-DPMNE Naum Stoilkovski filed to the Constitutional Court on behalf of the party an initiative for evaluation of the constitutionality of Article 3 of the Law on Personal Identification Documents and Article 5 of the Law on Traffic and Road Security.
“We filed these initiatives, and we expect the Constitutional Court to adopt temporary measures for these law articles, which would save the citizens from the horrible lines and crowds before the counters of the Interior Ministry, waiting for the issuing of new IDs and passports and driving licences with the new constitutional name of the country. We do this because the articles in question go against Articles 8, 9, 11, 25 and 27 from the Constitution, and because it is obvious that the Interior Ministry does not have enough resources to replace the old and issue new documents to the citizens by 12 February 2024. It is intriguing how SDSM and DUI, despite being aware that the documents must be changed till 12 February, did not do anything to procure enough of the necessary resource or to better organise the teams in the Interior Ministry responsible for issuing of the new documents,” Stoilkovski said.
