On Tuesday afternoon, Crisis Management Centre Director Stojance Angelov said there were 15 active wildfires.
The EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism has once again been activated and assistance with aircraft has been requested, he added.
“Unfortunately, new wildfires are continuing to break out. The hot weather and wind are causing particular problems,” Angelov also said.
He urged all citizens who live in semi-abandoned villages to evacuate immediately if they hear there is an active wildfire nearby unless local authorities have organised efforts to defend the village, in which case it would be preferable for them to join the efforts.
The situation was especially serious in Dojran, where the wildfire caught several houses. Mayor Ango Angov said the fire had come from the local landfill.
Fortunately, nobody was injured. In the Sveti Nikole region, seven persons who were stuck in a house in Stroimanci village were successfully evacuated.
The situation was also very serious in Pehcevo.
