Working Group Adopts Electoral Code Changes

On Tuesday, the working group adopted the Electoral Code changes. However, it failed to adjust stands on political advertising.

The Media Agency had proposed for there to be no political advertising, unlike the Statue Audit Office. The changes concern also funding of parties and protection of the right to vote, on the basis of OSCE/ODIHR recommendations.

The draft-changes had previously been sent to all parties, including to VMRO-DPMNE, which decided against participating. The head of the group, Aleksandar Novakovski, told Telma that the issue of political advertising would need to be decided on first by the Government and then by Parliament.

“This working group’s mandate concerned only OSCE/ODIHR recommendations. All that could have been implemented has been implemented. Some cannot be implemented. They’re incompatible with our Electoral Code,” he stated.
