Xhaferi: Parties Yet to Reach Agreement over Elections on 8 May 2024

Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi said on Monday that if the parliamentary elections in 2024 take place on 8 May, the caretaker government will start functioning at the end of January, the election will be declared on 27 or 28 February, while a new political government will be established as late as the end of June.

“These dates and deadline swill be valid only if the political parties reach a consensus over them. Till this moment, I have not received information that the parties in the parliament have reached agreement over the date for the election, and whether the parliamentary and the presidential election will take place on the same day,” Xhaferi said.

Asked to comment on unofficial information that he will be proposed by DUI as Caretaker PM, Xhaferi said that such information had not reached him yet, and that if it is decided so, the Parliament will have to appoint a new Speaker, and a new MP will have to fill the empty seat in the assembly.

Previously, PM Dimitar Kovacevski said that it is very probable for the parliamentary election to take place on 8 May 2024.
