On Tuesday, Yom Hashoah was observed at the Holocaust Memorial Centre in Skopje. Traditionally, the day is marked on the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
Samuel Sadikario, a retired university professor and member of the Jewish community, whose ancestors were part of the Partisans, said he regretted that there were fewer and fewer Jews in North Macedonia.
Regarding the Holocaust, he said six million Jews around the world had lost their lives over somebody’s crazy idea. At the observance, it was also pointed out that North Macedonia was paying tribute to its 7,144 Jews that had been deported to Treblinka.
A children’s exhibition, too, was opened on the occasion of Yom Hashoah, while the authors of the best three drawings received awards as well.
