Albania’s President Ilir Meta held talks Wednesday with the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the US State Department’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Elisabeth Millard, discussing inter alia about the 30 September referendum in Macedonia. A positive outcome of the plebiscite is significant not only for the European future of Macedonia, but also for the entire Balkan region, Meta and Millard concluded. Official Tirana has called on ethnic Albanians in Macedonia to come out and vote ‘for’ in the referendum, Meta told Millard. I wish a new perspective for Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic integration to open up as of 1 October, Meta said.
