On Monday, Parliament adopted, in first reading, the Draft Law on Prevention of Corruption and Conflict of Interest. It was supported by 58 MPs, whereas 16 voted against. There will be changes in several areas, such as the one concerning the procedure for election of State Commission for Prevention of Corruption (SCPC) head and members. The Deputy Minister of Justice, Oliver Ristovski, stated that the SCPC hadn’t functioned since the resignations earlier this year, adding that the body’s competences would be expanded. “Among the novelties is also the method to prepare and adopt the National Strategy on Prevention of Corruption and Conflict of Interest,” Ristovski stressed. VMRO-DPMNE MP Zoran Ilioski stated that the government was only interested in populism instead of trying to improve the anti-corruption situation.
