VMRO-DPMNE leader Mickoski demands Early Parliament Election

The leader of VMRO-DPMNE Hristijan Mickoski held at the party’s headquarters in Skopje a press conference right after the Parliament of Macedonia adopted the Prespa Agreement. Mickoski demands immediate dissolution of the Parliament of Macedonia, and early parliamentary election along with the presidential one, which is to take place in the spring of 2019. “VMRO-DPMNE is strongly convinced that the changes to the Constitution of Macedonia with ultimate goal change of the constitutional name of Macedonia are made illegally and by force. This decision was made by 81 MPs, but is not supported by the citizens of Macedonia, which was quite evidential at the referendum on 30 September 2018. Because of this, we need new election in which VMRO-DPMNE will defeat Zoran Zaev and SDSM and reverse this entire process, which is probably the greatest treachery Macedonia ever faced,” Mickoski said during the press conference. The PM Zoran Zaev reacted to the statements of Mickoski. “Mickoski declares he demands parliamentary election, but secretly he prays to God that they do not happen at all. SDSM will consider this request of his, but I still stand on the position that at the moment we do not need new parliamentary elections, and we should focus on reformation processes for NATO and EU membership instead,” Zaev said. Vice-PMs Radmila Sekerinska and Bujar Osmani reiterated Zaev’s positions during their press conference on Sunday, saying that early parliamentary election is not necessary at the moment.
