Bulgarian Parliament to ratify NATO Protocol for Macedonia’s Accession

The Bulgarian news agency BGNES reported on Wednesday that the Bulgarian government has officially requested the Parliament of Bulgaria to ratify the Protocol for Accession of Macedonia in NATO under the name “North Macedonia”. The Ministerial Council of Bulgaria already approved the law on ratification of the Protocol, and now the Parliament is expected to do the same. Greece and Slovenia already ratified the Protocol, while Albania is expected to do the same on Thursday. In meantime, a source from within NATO reported for the news agency TASS that Macedonia is expected to become a full-fledged NATO member-state by the spring of 2020, adding that NATO is expecting the letter from official Skopje that the entire process for the implementation of the Prespa Agreement is completed and that the country officially changed its name in “Republic of North Macedonia”.
