At the sidelines of the 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Doha, the Speaker of the Macedonian Parliament Talat Xhaferi held bilateral meetings with his Georgian and Maltese counterparts, Irakli Kobakhidze and Angelo Farrugia respectively. At the meeting with Kobakhidze, Xhaferi expressed satisfaction with the official establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations between Georgia and Macedonia which occurred in February 2019. “Both countries share the same agenda – integration in NATO and EU. Kobakhidze said that the establishment of bilateral relations with North Macedonia strengthened the mutual support in terms of the Euro-Atlantic integrations,” Xhaferi said. At the meeting with Farrugia, Xhaferi said that both countries enjoy excellent bilateral cooperation since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations back in 2016. “We are thankful for all the support Malta provides to North Macedonia in its integration in EU. I can also say that there is a very good cooperation between the parliaments of our two countries, which resulted with signing of several memorandums for cooperation in numerous fields,” Xhaferi said. Farrugia congratulated Xhaferi and Macedonia on the progress made so far and expressed hope that Macedonia will be given a date for start of the membership negotiations with the EU this June.
