The PM Zoran Zaev visited on Wednesday the site of the great forest fire near the Mladost Lake in Veles. The fire was started on Monday afternoon, and was finally localised on Tuesday evening, resulting in destruction of over 400 hectares of pine forest. “I express my condolences to the citizens of Veles for losing one of their favourite picnic sites. I, and I believe other citizens as well, feel anger knowing that the fire, as well as many other past or active forest fires around our country, are a result of human error or negligence; people that set fires in the open will not be tolerated. At the same time, I would like to thank all the citizens and public enterprises that participated in the extinguishing of this fire, preventing an even greater ecologic catastrophe,” Zaev said, adding that the government will initiate actions for reforestation of the areas around Macedonia caught by fires.
