With 102 votes in favour, MPs dismissed Katica Janeva as Special Prosecutor. The decision was made unanimously, but VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM presented different stands. VMRO-DPMNE considers that the Special Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) has been used to pressure and blackmail opposition MPs to the ruling structure’s benefit, whereas SDSM MPs said the dismissal proved the legal state functioned and showed that everyone breaking the law would be held responsible. Despite supporting the decision, DUI stated that an institutional investigation is needed into each official. According to BESA, the dismissal means also a shutdown of the SPO. The Council of Public Prosecutors unanimously confirmed the dismissal. Regarding the status of the SPO’s employees, it will discuss the issue on Monday.
