The state leadership is starting a fight against fake news as a big threat to security and democracy in modern society. “Propaganda and disinformation have the potential to promote violence and hate speech and to reduce trust in democratic values,” PM Zoran Zaev said at the constitutive meeting of the Action Group that will coordinate institutions in the fight. “In this era of digitisation, when we’re one click away from all information, we often don’t have the opportunity to make a distinction between substantiated and professional news and disinformation,” President Stevo Pendarovski said.
