US Senate ratifies Macedonia’s NATO Accession Protocol

The US Senate has ratified Macedonia’s NATO Accession Protocol. Senators voted 91-2 on Tuesday. The no votes came from Republican Senators Rand Paul of Kentucky and Mike Lee of Utah. In a tweet, US Ambassador Kate Marie Byrnes expressed satisfaction. “So pleased to see the overwhelming support in our Senate for U.S. ratification of North Macedonia’s @NATO accession protocol. This is the result of much hard work & commitment to investing in the future. Looking forward to continuing to develop & deepen our countries’ partnership,” she tweeted. President Stevo Pendarovski and the independent group of VMRO-DPMNE MPs were among those who welcomed the ratification, too. So far, 25 countries have completed the ratification process. Spain, Iceland, the Netherlands and France remain.
