Pendarovski: Bulgaria helped North Macedonia out of Isolation

The President of Macedonia Stevo Pendarovski states in an interview for the Bulgarian news agency BGNES that it was Bulgaria that pulled Macedonia out of complete political and international isolation. “It is not an overreaction when PM Zoran Zaev claims that the governments of Bulgaria and Greece headed by Boyko Borissov and Alexis Tsipras have great responsibility for saving our country from a state of isolation. The Good-neighbourliness agreement with Bulgaria was signed in a very delicate period, when North Macedonia was recovering from the 11-year long regime of then PM Nikola Gruevski, which nourished hostile policies towards our neighbours,” Pendarovski said. This evaluation of Pendarovski was welcomed by Borissov, who said that it is as worthy as a positive grade by Standard and Poor’s for Bulgaria. “We support the integration of North Macedonia in NATO and EU, and I hope we will see them as members of these alliances soon,” Borissov said.
