Parties React to Impact of Formation of Government in Spain on NATO Road

The political developments in Spain are good news for all political parties in Macedonia. SDSM is calling on the opposition to be responsible, while VMRO-DPMNE is saying it will support the ratification of the NATO Protocol in order for the ruling structure not to have excuses. “It’s good and motivating for us that Spain has managed to form a government. Sure enough, the Republic of North Macedonia’s NATO membership is a technical issue. The strategic goal of the country, which is integration into NATO, has been realised, together with SDSM and its coalition,” Kostadin Kostadinov, spokesperson for SDSM, said, adding that he expected the ratification in Skopje to take place very soon. Parties from the Albanian bloc, too, agree with a regular procedure in Parliament for ratification. However, they are also ready for early support of the document if the procedure in Spain isn’t carried out not later than the start of February. Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi said Spain was expected to ratify the document as soon as possible and the procedure in Macedonia to be finished by 12 February.
