Varhelyi Sends Letter to Spasovski on Initial Financial Aid

EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi informed Technical Prime Minister Oliver Spasovski in a letter that he had already issued instructions for four million Euros of EU integration instrument funds to be redirected for Macedonia’s immediate needs. Varhelyi said in the letter that they are looking for a way to redirect the 50 million Euro award, originally intended for infrastructure and the environment, towards alleviation of the social and economic damage caused by the crisis. Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi stated that the procedure for allocating 9 million Euros to support the liquidity of small and medium-sized companies has been placed under urgent procedure together with 3 million Euros for direct budget support. He also stated that at a time when Europe and the world are facing a crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, projects to alleviate financial problems and manage crisis in Macedonia and the region are being developed in cooperation with international financial institutions. EU Commissioner Varhelyi also informed that in cooperation with the Regional Cooperation Council, the CEFTA Secretariats and the Transport Community ways of sustained transport of goods in the region and in the European Union are being identified.
