Hutchison: NATO to Tackle Spreading of Fake News in North Macedonia

US Ambassador to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchison informed on Tuesday that NATO will implement activities for combatting fake news promoted from Russian and Chinese centres of power affecting some of the Alliance’s member-states, including Macedonia. “The Alliance expects more information from Skopje on setting up such a team for North Macedonia, aimed at preparing media in the country on how to deter disinformation campaigns coming from Russia. There is a lot of fake news spreading in North Macedonia regarding the coronavirus and the NATO assistance in equipment provided to its ally, which is dealing with the crisis during a state of emergency. North Macedonia is a full-fledged member, and as an ally, it is supported by NATO in this crisis. The assistance will continue, including for fighting disinformation coming from Russian sources,” Hutchison said, calling upon all NATO allies to oppose, as she said, fake news about the coronavirus coming from Russia and China.
