There is no need for overdramatising, let diplomacy work, while the EU will do everything it can so that Skopje starts negotiations by the end of the year. This was the message sent by EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi in Skopje on Wednesday with regards to Bulgaria’s stands on Macedonia’s integration road. According to him, finding a solution is in the interest of both countries. As Varhelyi said, it would be very difficult to move forward if no mutual understanding is reached when it comes to those issues. The Commissioner thinks now is the time to reach an agreement. “And, of course, if we can be of any help in this process, we will do so and we will contribute to finding a solution. It’s not impossible. I wouldn’t overdramatise this issue, but, of course, it’s a very serious one,” the Commissioner pointed out. He has information that both countries have pledges and are working on solving the problem. According to PM Zoran Zaev, Macedonia will implement the Commission’s recommendations. Apart from with the PM, Varhelyi also met with President Stevo Pendarovski. He ended his visit to the country by meeting VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski as well.
