Karakachanov: Skopje not Ready to Become Part of EU

Bulgarian Defence Minister Krasimir Karakachanov said in an interview for a local Bulgarian TV that Macedonia is still not ready to start the membership negotiations with the EU. “Ever since the Good-neighbourliness Agreement was signed, the government in Skopje is doing everything it can to not implement it. I still don’t get it how some foreign politicians fail to understand things. Who can benefit from official Skopje becoming part of EU if they show open pretentions towards us, attempting to steal our history and heating up the hate speech towards Bulgaria? If we let this slide now, in future, when they become EU members, they will once again bring up these demands and will cause serious internal problems within the EU,” Karakachanov said.
