Conclusions over Enlargement with Sofia’s Changes Officially Confirmed

The conclusions concerning enlargement with the changes demanded by Sofia were officially confirmed in Brussels on Wednesday by the Committee of Permanent Representatives. As MIA reports, the Bulgarian demands regarding the “misinterpretation of history” and use of the whole constitutional name of the country were accepted. This is considered success of the German EU Presidency, which had risked being left without any document on enlargement, but it’s nonetheless important to note that this step doesn’t represent unclogging the negotiations framework for Macedonia and starting negotiations. According to the preamble of the adopted conclusions, the Council reminds of the Skopje-Athens name and 2017 Sofia-Skopje deals, and highlights the importance of them being constantly implemented. As it is added, these two major steps are supposed to effectively end all demands founded on the misinterpretation of history.
