Zaev: Bulgaria’s Position is Anachronistic and Contrary to International Law

On Monday, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev participated in the panel organized by the US think tank Atlantic Council on “Macedonia on the doorstep of Europe”, as part of the study prepared for the country by experts at the Atlantic Council. Regarding the current situation with the Macedonian-Bulgarian relations, Prime Minister Zaev said that Bulgaria’s unprincipled position prevented the possibility of the first intergovernmental conference with the EU, which should have marked the beginning of negotiations. “Our position is that friends should not block each other. On the contrary, they should help each other. I consider their current position to be anachronistic and contrary to international law. We as a country will continue to make every effort to overcome the problems, while respecting ourselves and others,” said Prime Minister Zaev.
