Zaharieva: Skopje Must Understand That EU is Not Yugoslavia

Bulgarian Foreign Affairs Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva said in an interview for the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) that Bulgaria shall not succumb to pressures concerning the accession of Macedonia in the EU. “Ever since 2019 we are trying to explain to official Skopje that the EU does not function as Yugoslavia did. Respect and implementation of the Good-neighbourliness Agreement are crucial for progress in our bilateral dialogue. I can assure that absolutely no one, not even the US, can and should pressure Bulgaria to make setbacks and allow the integration of North Macedonia in the EU under the current conditions,” Zaharieva said. On Wednesday evening, Zaharieva held a meeting with Macedonian FM Bujar Osmani in Sofia, where they discussed the completion and implementation of the Action Plant concerning the proper implementation of the Good-neighbourliness Agreement.
