Parliament Assembles and Adopts Daily Order for 36th Session

After few days of blockade, the Parliament of Macedonia held on Thursday a session at which the MPs adopted a daily order for the 36th session containing 4 laws necessary for implementation of the measures from the 5th economic anti-COVID set created by the government for assistance of businesses and citizens. Before this, Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi first scheduled a session for MP questions, but then immediately interrupted it in order to schedule the 36th session. This was opposed by the MPs of VMRO-DPMNE who immediately left the hall, while their coordinator Nikola Micevski demanded a coordinative meeting with the coordinators of the other MP groups, a proposal accepted by Xhaferi. After one hour, the MPs returned to the hall and adopted the daily order for the session with the 4 laws in question with 86 votes in favour and no votes against. PS Xhaferi and SDSM MP group coordinator Jovan Mitreski welcomed the act of cooperation by the opposition. “I thank the opposition for overcoming themselves and giving us the support to adopt the laws that all citizens wait for too long,” Mitreski said, while Xhaferi said that he is glad that the ruling parties and the opposition are able to find solutions for their disagreements. VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski however, once again addressed criticism via Facebook at the parliamentary majority of SDSM, DUI and BESA. “This situation clearly shows that the government has a majority only to maintain its mandate, but not when it comes to helping the citizens. VMRO-DPMNE will always act for the good of the citizens and their best interest,” Mickoski wrote. The laws in question are to be further processed by the respective Parliamentary Committees in the upcoming days, but the Alliance for Albanians and Alternative already announced that they will block the adoption of these laws with 3,000 amendments, and that they will do so with all other draft-laws until their proposal for changes to the Law on Citizenship is accepted.
