Parliament Postpones Census and Local Elections

Parliament adopted the postponement of the Law on Census of Households and Dwellings by summary procedure together with the amendments to the Electoral Code. The postponement of the census, the introduction of a fingerprint and the postponement of the local elections were part of the agreement at the meeting between the leaders of the two largest parties in the country, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev from SDSM and Hristijan Mickoski from VMRO-DPMNE. DUI leader Ali Ahmeti later came out in support, while the Albanian opposition parties, the Alliance for Albanians and Alternative, opposed the postponement of the census. With the vote, the Parliament postponed the census in the country, which will be conducted from 5 to 30 September instead of April, and the local elections that will probably be held at the end of October.
