Zacarias: We Invest Efforts to Help Skopje and Sofia Overcome Bilateral Issues

Portugal will invest efforts to help official Skopje and Sofia to resolve bilateral disputes so that the accession talks for North Macedonia kick off before the end of June 2021, Portuguese State Secretary for Europe Ana Paula Zacarias said during a session of the General Affairs Council of the EU in Brussels. “The Portuguese presidency over the EU will make efforts so that both North Macedonia and Albania start the EU accession negotiations by the end of June. We are in constant communications with official Skopje and Sofia in order to see if and where we can provide assistance for overcoming and resolving of the bilateral disputes between the two countries,” Zacarias said. European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič and German Minister for Europe Michael Roth advocated sooner start of the accession talks with Skopje and Tirana.
