National European Integration Council Holds Session

At Monday’s session of the National European Integration Council, the situation regarding the upcoming June Summit was being considered. Deputy PM for European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov is moderately optimistic that the EU is aware of the stake it has with regards to enlargement, on which the EU’s credibility in the region depends, too. As he reiterated, in the talks with Bulgaria, Skopje’s red lines on the identity issues are known. Though the members of the Council from the ruling majority and opposition agree that there should be joint work on the European agenda, they expressed doubts over the talks with Sofia. The Council’s assessment is that the business community, local self-government, and civil society sector should get involved in the work in order for a broad front of activities to be prepared that will contribute to adoption of European standards in the country.
